Team Chevey and the Daytona 500

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 in Dale Earnhardt Jr by

As the stars of NASCAR are revving their engines for the 2006 racing season, Chevy Racing will be celebrating it’s success on the track with a new advertising campaign set to kick off during the televised Daytona 500 race.  Boasting about their 25 wins in the last 33 Manufacturer’s Cup Championships, Chevy racing plans to focus on the fact that they have won more than any other automobile manufacturer while dominating one of the most popular sports in America.

The new Chevy Racing campaign unveils “Team Chevy,” which is an exclusive club consisting of some of NASCAR’s brightest stars and their participation using the Chevy Monte Carlo SS racing machine.  While retaining it’s “American Revolution” tag line, Chevy also plans to incorporate a touch of humor with it’s new campaign.

During the first commercial ad spot, fans will see “Toast.”  This promo features Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart as they enjoy celebrating recent Team Chevy victories.  As these superstars relive their wins, they incorporate NASCAR’s victory celebration into the crowd.  As they spray champagne into the crowd of cheering fans, they also pour their champagne over the heads.  The latter is customary for the victor in a NASCAR race, but Chevy decided to add a twist by spraying the fans, as well.

During the second televised spot, titled “Office,” Team Chevy once again showcases their racing dominance as Chevy’s Racing Director, Terry, searches for space to display the latest awards for current NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart.  As he searches all around, he finds that every inch of space is already occupied with trophies.  But, perhaps there is room somewherel . . . .

“Chevy Racing is all about a passion for racing and winning and that excitement extends to our vehicle lineup, which is now America’s No. 1-selling automotive brand,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet General Manager. “Deutsch found a simple, clear way to deliver that message with a couple of great humorous twists.”

Chevy and NASCAR fans will get their first glance at the new advertising campaign during the NBC televised Daytona 500 event on February 19, 2006.  Ads will appear nationally on both NBC and Fox.  Printed ads, in conjunction with those being televised, will appear in USA today and in various racing program guides.

Chevrolet is the bestselling automotive brand in the United States.  With the largest dealer network in America, Chevy is the leader in full-size trucks and in the sale of vehicles priced at $35,000 and above.  In addition, Chevy offers expressive design, valued pricing and spirited performance with features found only in the more expensive automobiles.

Settings: Professional, no assists. Oh and we have sound, yes! Not the best quality but at least we have something! Gran Turismo 5 Build at GamesCom 2010 in Köln, Germany. Driving is done by Denur from GTPlanet of course! I used a simple Audio to Audio cable to record the sounds straight from the TV using my laptop and recorded the video with my Sony SD Camcorder. The TV sound there was set at MAX and yet you mostly couldn’t hear anything at all. I apologize for the angle of the video but I had to make sure both were at arms reach so I could operate both at the same time. Enjoy!

Watch NASCAR Coke Zero 400 Online

Posted on August 28th, 2010 in Dale Earnhardt Jr by

Start your engines and get in front of your computers to watch the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 held July 3 at Daytona International Speedway. This will be the final event run on top the current asphalt at the Speedway, which will be shut down after the race for repaving. The entire 2.5 mile oval, along with the skid pads, apron and pit road, will be totally repaved. NASCAR will return to running the new surface for Speedweeks 2011 and the 53rd Annual Daytona 500 to be held Feb. 20, 2011.

So, to watch the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 you need to grab a hold of this great software I found. You can easily download it from the Internet and just as easily install and operate it on your computer. There is a version for either Macintosh or PC so everyone gets their own computer-side, grandstand seat. The only thing else needed to complete your race entry ticket is a high-speed Internet connection through either cable or DSL. Then you can grab a snack and a cold one, sit back in your favorite chair and watch all the spine-tingling racing action through live streaming video over the Internet onto your own computer.

Follow the exploits of your favorite NASCAR team as they negotiate through the pack in this 160-lap, 400 mile race that pits driving skills and endurance to win the day. Last year’s winner, Tony Stewart, will more than likely put on a great defense of his title. He also won in 2005 and 2006. But others like Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jamie McMurray, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon – all past winners – will also be geared for a winning run.

If you install this software on a traveling laptop, you add a great feature giving you the opportunity to view the racing action no matter where you are Independence Day weekend. High-speed Internet connections are available everywhere nowadays, so enjoy.

Stop the Complaining on the Race Track

Posted on August 16th, 2010 in Dale Earnhardt Jr by

Looking like he is already in championship form, Jimmie Johnson passed Tony Stewart with three laps remaining to win the Kobalt Tools 500 in Atlanta Sunday.

Johnson led 132 of the first 238 laps and then the last three to win the 25th Nextel Cup race of his career.  Johnson gave much of the credit to crew chief Chad Knaus for making adjustments during the race, and specifically on the last pit stop.  Following the final pit stop Johnson passed Matt Kenseth and then Stewart.

Stewart had the lead on the final restart but after some exciting side by side racing with Johnson, Johnson’s inside pass was the pivotal moment.  Kenseth finished third and Jeff Burton finished fourth.

Johnson moved to within 28 points of chase leader Mark Martin in the Nextel Cup standings.  Martin, who finished 10th remains in the points lead eight points ahead of second place Jeff Gordon.  Martin’s lead should come to an end after next week since he reiterated his plans to sit out the next two races in the partial schedule he will run this year.  Jeff Burton is third in the points, 11 behind Martin and Johnson is in fourth.

Juan Pablo Montoya continues his rapid learning curve as he carded the best result of his Nextel Cup career finishing in fifth.  Montoya, who won the Busch race in Mexico City two weeks ago, says he and his crew are “getting the hang of it”.

Most drivers were obviously concerned about tire wear and tear and took it easy early in the race.  The Goodyear tires held up well and for half the race with the drivers just clicking off laps is seemed to be a pretty boring race.

Atlanta Race Notes:

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s struggles in 2007 continue. He is 26th in the point standings.

Brian Vickers became the first driver to lead a lap in a Nextel Cup race in a Toyota.  His joy was short-lived, he had engine trouble and ended up in the garage with a 42nd place finish.

The biggest wreck of the day was a four car incident the included Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, David Reutimann, and Brian Vickers.

Many drivers in Atlanta couldn’t help but thinking about next weeks Bristol race and the debut of the new larger, boxier Car of Tomorrow.

Kyle Busch will showcase endangered wildlife on his car this year to call attention to animal rescue and conservation education at Sea World and Busch Gardens.  A bald eagle, penguins and a kangaroo were at the media center in Atlanta this past week for the announcement.

Drivers Need to Stop Complaining

Tony Stewart said “They screwed up a great racetrack!”  Mark Martin predicted gloom and doom after the Busch race last Saturday, and Jeff Gordon said he planned to sit down with NASCAR officials after last Sunday’s Las Vegas Motor Speedway Nextel Cup race.  Lately if one thing is as certain as death and taxes, it will be stock car racers complaining about the track and conditions they have to race in each week.

In reality it was not “black ice” as Greg Biffle called it, or was there a wreck on every lap as Kasey Kahne boldly predicted.  It was a different track than they had raced on in Vegas in the past,  slight track improvements were made and 8 degrees of banking were added as well a revamping of pit road.  Speeds were topping 200 mph during testing in January, and Goodyear’s tire for LVMS was hard and didn’t grip the track very well.

What’s the big deal?  NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers are paid big buck to make left turns and complete 267 in Las Vegas every March.  If the track unsafe for driving with 42 other cars at blazing speeds racers need to make adjustments.  The conditions are the same for everybody.   When Tiger Woods goes to Scotland for the British Open and the conditions are wet, rainy and gale force winds whip up over the lochs and channels he can’t play the same game as he would in Hilton Head at the Heritage Golf Classic.

Different conditions at different tracks make NASCAR racing much more interesting to Joe Fan in Hoover Alabama.  If every track was the same, racing teams could set the car up each week, teach a chimpanzee to grip a steering wheel and hit a gas pedal and let him go.  It would be mindless racing each weekend which translates into BORING.

These drivers are too good to be pouting each time a track doesn’t suit their cars perfectly.  It is a long season and each week the warriors of the NASCAR circuit hit a different track in a different city.  There are many great stories and races that need to be talked and written about.  Complaining and crying about the track each week doesn’t need to be one of them.
