Nascar: Kurt Busch Excels In Atlanta

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Nascar Series by

Once again one of the Busch brothers achieves excellence in the NASCAR Sprint Cup; this time was Kurt who obtained the glorious triumph in a spectacular way in Atlanta, at the Kobalt Tools 500.  In the previous race in Las Vegas, it was Kyle, Kurt’s younger brother, who was crowned as champion.  This victory is without a doubt, a very positive aspect for Busch’s older brother, who was losing its luster while being overshadowed by the continuing success of his brother.

Since the start of the competition, Kurt managed to maintain himself in the front for 232 of the 325 laps set with full control of his vehicle (a Miller Lite Dodge Penske), demonstrating his amazing skills to lead and thus surpassed the yellow flags that were shown during the first twelve laps. During this period, the leading position was occupied for four different drivers in a given moment, but in the midst of a successful maneuver, Busch was able to take the control of the race, getting ahead and moving away from Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon, who were chasing him at a very close range.

As the competition progressed, the emotions were growing strong as well as the hard fight to achieve and maintain the leading position. In the middle of this battle, Mark Martin had some problems with his car again, similar to the last week, causing the yellow flags to appear once again. Because of this, Kurt Busch lost the lead, which was occupied during that moment by Jeff Gordon, while Kurt followed him very concentrated to never lose his sight because Jimmy Johnson was making pressure behind him.

Brian Vickers also managed to join to this battle for the first position, but he saw how his efforts dropped down after getting another yellow flag due to Robby Gordon’s punched tire. This incident was the reason why most drivers had to enter the pits area and as they were going out of it, a new contest to get the best position in front of the race was restarted.

Carl Edwards was the one who took the lead and was placed at the top, where he stayed for a short time since Kurt made a display of his great talent, the same one that he shown when he achieved the NASCAR Sprint Cup2004 title. The efforts to reach Busch seemed worthless at this point of the race, as he increased his performance and controlled to perfection his car # 2, while maintaining his leading position until the end of the race.

In this worthy victory, Kurt Busch was able to lead a greater number of laps in a single competition that what he did throughout the entire last season, when he marked 164 laps overall. After this exciting competition in Atlanta, Kurt is placed in the third position at the overall standings with 588 points behind Clint Bowyer, who is ranked second with 591 points and both drivers remain a long way from Jeff Gordon, who owns the privileged position with 634 points.

What is the size of the Nascar Cup series rule book in pages?

Posted on August 26th, 2010 in Nascar Series by

Does anyone know how big this so called rule book is? How many rules? Is it given to the team manager as a book or can it be put on a computer? Does Nascar charge the teams for a copy of the rule book?
Thanks!

Jeb Burton to Race in Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Series

Posted on August 18th, 2010 in Nascar Series by

South Boston, Virginia – Jeb Burton, 17-year old son of former NASCAR driver and Daytona 500 winner, Ward Burton, has been chosen as a guest driver for the season opener of Volkswagen of America, Inc.’s SCCA Pro Racing Jetta TDI Cup series, hosted by VIRginia International Raceway.  Burton will also participate in all of the weekend’s on and off-track events, including practice and qualifying and compete in the series’ second race at VIRginia International Raceway at 2 PM on April 26.

The 2009 season marks the second year of competition for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. During the season, young, up and coming drivers between ages 16-26 compete in 10 events on eight road courses around North America. Each driver competing in the series will earn a Pro Racing license from SCCA at the conclusion of the season and the series champion will win $100,000. While Burton will be a full participant in the race at VIR, he is ineligible for driver points or prize money.

In the Jetta TDI Cup series all cars are identical Jetta TDI’s, powered by HYPERFUELS’ SynDiesel® B5 bio-fuel. The environmentally friendly car only uses two tanks of clean diesel fuel in races during the season.   Like his father, founder of the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation, Burton is an avid outdoorsman who cares deeply about conservation.

“I was born and raised by the creed to give back our natural resources to the next generation.  I am honored to be selected to be a guest driver for the Volkswagen TDI Cup series and excited to participate in such an environmentally friendly series,” he says.

Currently, Burton drives the No.27 State Water Heaters Chevy Impala in the Limited Sportsman Division at South Boston Speedway.  He has participated in two races so far this season and finished in the top three at both.

Burton’s Jetta TDI Cup racecar will also be decked out in State Water Heaters’ orange and blue.

Other guest drivers at the season opener are Simon Dumont, professional freestyle skier and Red Bull athlete and Dan Carney, award-winning automotive journalist.

Toyota Nascar Truck Race Reviewed

Posted on August 10th, 2010 in Nascar Series by

Six Tundras drivers finished in the top-10 at Memphis: Jack Sprague (second), Mike Skinner (fourth), Aaron Fike (fifth), Ryan Mathews (No. 36 Lilly Company/Toyota Industrial Equipment Tundra, sixth), Johnny Benson (No. 23 360 OTC Tundra, seventh) and Todd Bodine (No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra, eighth). Other drivers in the field were Brad Keselowski (16th), Terry Cook (No. 59 Harris Trucking Tundra, 29th) and Ken Butler (No. 00 Aaron’s Lucky Dog Tundra, 33rd).

Keselowski started, for the first of his NCTS career, on the pole in the No. 9 Team ASE Tundra for Germain Racing and led three times for 23 laps. Skinner led 16 laps, and has now led at least one lap in the season’s first 12 races. As a result, he tied the NCTS record for consecutive races led to start a season (Jason Leffler, 2002).

No. 60 Con-way Freight Tundra driver Jack Sprague said that it was a difficult race. He explains that they were horrible but they did a great job with we made some great adjustments. According to him, his truck was a little loose but cooperated by rotating pretty well in the center. He added that they have to give up something at this race track because it is not going to be perfect on both ends.

No. 5 Toyota Tundra diver Mike Skinner said that the truck was very consistent though each set of tires they put on it was a bit different. He considers the recent race as the best run they have ever had in Memphis.

No. 1 RFMS Tundra diver Aaron Fike said that they were looses the whole race but it was their first top-five of the season. He added that they probably should have had a couple top-fives already this year, but they caught a couple bad breaks. He further said that they been in the top-10 in points all year so it is nice to get a good finish and keep the truck up there in points.

No. 9 Team ASE Tundra driver Brad Kaselowski commented that they had a strong truck all night, but it just did not end how they wanted it to. He said that he used everything he had to get to Travis and pass him. Kaselowski caught a little break in traffic to get by Travis. The two got into more traffic and could not get around a couple lapped trucks, and used the rear tires a little too hard and used them up. Though disappointed, Kaselowski was certain that it was the best run he has ever had.

Toyota’s History in America Motorsports

Aside from making quality auto parts such as Toyota Highlander parts, Toyota is also into the world of Motorsports.

Challenges abound as Toyota prepares to face its biggest motorsports test ever in North America when it enters the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series this year.

In 2006, a pair of manufacturer’s championships, a driver’s title and a win in America’s most prestigious sports car race was all a part of the rich motorsports history. Todd Bodine bagged Toyota’s first-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) Driver’s Championship with three victories. Furthermore, Bodine led a sweep of the top six positions by Toyota Tundra drivers to give Toyota its first Manufacturer’s Championship. For the season, Tundra drivers would achieve victory 12 times in the 25-race campaign.
